A little bit of history

I remember search engines were outstanding technologies back in the 90. It was hard to find relevant information. Yandex, and others sites, that were “portals”, where you can find different links on the topic. But then search become so popular and efficient, that is start to be used for everything. If you want something in the internet - just type to the search.

But it is outdated now for several reasons

Reason 1. AI

Current and most obvious part is ChatGPT and similar. “Answers to questions in the context” - its faster to ask AI, and refine the question, and then ask again in the same direction. One of the drawback, of course, is the absence of sources on what the answer is based, so the confidence of the answer is on requestor’s side (and always was :) )

Reason 2 . Internet is not only sites

Current search do not search facebook, instagram, vk, tiktok, telegram, podcasts etc. I have several telegram channels that has interesting content and have answers to my questions, but nor google, nor yandex, nor ChatGPT uses them in their search response.

Conclusion

We are back in time - we need to know where to go for the information, to invest our time to the topic. The Search was democratizing tool, and now we have opposite direction - centralized and controlled information with limiting access to it. Will it bring technological breakthrough or will lead to stagnation?
